If we could see as God sees, I wonder how many people would be fish-like in appearance, having swallowed much bait, hook, line and sinker.

“Blessed is the one who finds wisdom.” Proverbs 3:13
What characterizes the one who finds wisdom is the very pursuit of that wisdom. He is actively hunting after God and the great gift of wisdom. He therefore does not find wisdom as he might find a penny on the sidewalk. People do not walk on the sidewalk with the express purpose of finding pennies, but rather happen to bump into them. If our pursuit of wisdom is like that, then we will not become very wise, in the same way that a person will not become rich collecting pennies he happens to find on the sidewalk. So there must be an intentional hunt for wisdom if it is to be found.
Where are you hunting?
Who is the treasure of the universe but Jesus Christ? “In Him all the fullness of deity was pleased to dwell.” (Colossians 1:19) He is the one who “upholds the universe by the word of His power” (Hebrews 1:3) and “in Him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:17)
And He has revealed Himself in a book!
“He is a shield to those who walk in integrity,” (Proverbs 2:7) and for those who do not walk in integrity the shield of God’s protection comes down. So seek Him in the smallest of the day’s labors through the pursuit of your own integrity in all things, and enjoy His shielding.
Proverbs 1:33
“…but whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster.”
What a clear call to read and meditate upon sacred scripture. What a gift, to dwell secure in the promise of eternity with God, beginning when He saved us, giving us a heart’s ease we never had before when we were held in death’s grip, sin and fear holding us tightly. What a gift to live without the dread of disaster, to live in the knowledge that disaster may come, but to still live in peace because you know that King Jesus awaits you in and on the other side of disaster.
Therefore we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?’ Hebrews 13:6 and also O death, where is your sting?” 1 Corinthians 15:55
Amen.
When sailing on the oceans of life we see an iceberg of sin looming, calling us closer, we must remember clearly and with alarm bells ringing, that the greater mass, the greater threat, lies hidden from view. The sin we see belies the greater horror of what lies beneath and behind, and our limited ability to apprehend reality cannot be fully trusted.
So grasping for human praise, giving undo attention to our homes, being short with our kids, being tight with our money etc…ought to trigger in us a heightened wariness of greater evils lurking below the waterline.
